Piano Trainer (web app at trainpiano.app and the “Piano Training” Android app) · Last updated: 26 July 2026

Piano Trainer is a sight-reading practice tool. It has no user accounts, shows no ads, and does not sell, rent or share personal data with anyone. This policy explains the little data that is involved and what you can turn off.

What stays on your device

Everything you create or practise stays in your browser or app storage and is never uploaded:

Deleting the app, or clearing site data in your browser, erases all of it. We keep no copy, so we cannot restore it for you — use the export function in the Library if you want a backup.

Anonymous usage statistics (optional)

To see which parts of the app are actually used and where it breaks, we collect anonymous usage statistics with Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool we host ourselves at stats.trainpiano.app. The data is not shared with any third party and is not used for advertising.

Each event records:

Umami uses no cookies and creates no cross-site identifier. Your IP address itself is not stored; it is used to look up an approximate location, and that location — down to city level — is stored with the visit. It is never a precise position: it says roughly where the network you used is, not where you are. We never receive the sheet music you import, the notes you play, or anything that identifies you personally.

You can switch this off in Settings → Privacy → Anonymous usage statistics. The setting takes effect immediately and is remembered on that device.

Feedback you send us

The feedback form in the “About” tab is entirely optional. When you submit it, we receive the message you wrote plus technical context that helps reproduce bugs: app version and build date, interface language, whether the layout was desktop or mobile, the page address, and your browser/device user-agent string. It is delivered to a private team chat we run on our own server. Please do not include personal information in the message text — nothing else is attached automatically.

MIDI keyboards

If you connect a MIDI instrument, the browser or Android asks for your permission first. Note data from the instrument is processed on your device to score your playing and is never transmitted to us.

Data we never collect

Where the data goes

DataPurposeWhere it lives
Your library, history, settings Running the app Your device only
Anonymous usage events Analytics — improving the app Our own server (self-hosted Umami)
Feedback messages Support and bug fixing Our own server (private team chat)

Our servers are located in Germany. Analytics events are retained for up to 24 months and then deleted automatically; feedback messages are kept while they remain useful for support and then deleted.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages but is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. No personal data is collected from anyone.

Your rights

Because we hold no account and no identifiers, we normally cannot link any stored data to you, which also means we cannot look it up or delete it on request. You remain in control through the app itself: turn off analytics in Settings, and clear the on-device data by uninstalling the app or clearing site data. If you have sent us feedback and would like that message deleted, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new date above.
